About Pro star productions

Sherman Chao, the owner of Pro Star Productions, began his career in the sound and lighting industry at the age of 13. From a young age, he immersed himself in producing and engineering live sound, learning hands-on skills like setup, teardown, and mixing. He also spent five years as a roadie, gaining invaluable experience setting up for concerts and local shows.

Pro Star Productions originally started as Spec Audio, which Sherman ran with a business partner. He later realized he could grow further by building a full-service production company. 

Partnering with experts in lighting, video, and recording, Sherman rebranded the company as 5 Star Show Industries, offering comprehensive production services. 

In 2013, after the Vice President of 5 Star Show Industries retired following 45 years in the industry, Sherman continued expanding the business by hiring skilled professionals across all departments.

In September 2017, Sherman rebranded the company once more, establishing Pro Star Productions, reflecting his vision for a full-service production company.

At 18, Sherman attended sound school to further his expertise, moving to New York City to study at AVLA NYC. He graduated as a Chief Sound Engineer and then worked for two years in Hollywood as the Chief Sound Engineer at Universal Studios. Eventually, Sherman returned to Calgary, Alberta, to continue building his career in Canada.

Sherman has worked on numerous major concert tours with top Canadian and American artists and continues to do so. Today, he owns Pro Star Productions, which has grown to offer a wide range of services, including concerts, festivals, corporate events, weddings, and more.

Since 2015, Sherman has emphasized giving back to the community. Each year, he offers up to five free shows for charity events, building lasting relationships with local organizations.

With the 2017 rebrand, Sherman opened a storefront, offering additional perks while remaining deeply involved in the Canadian music and production scene.
